Hacked 2.0
While I was looking for Web 2.0 sites that focus on banking, I saw something I haven’t seen in a long time — a hacked web site. NetBanker profiled their Top 25 Web 2.0 Financial Websites back in December 2006. So I figured I’d visit the sites I wasn’t familiar with. Because the blog entry had no links, I had to use direct navigation or Google the site.
WikiFinancial seemed like an interesting concept, especially after seeing wikitravel.org get acquired by Internet Brands. After some searching I found the link on Google — Wikifinancial.net | Take Control of Your Money! I clicked it in anticipation, and suddenly Firefox locked up, my CPU jumped to 80%, music started playing, and here’s what I saw:

I suggest you avoid visiting the site out of curiousity (wikifinancial.net). I’m not sure if there is any ActiveX or Javascript virus present behind the scenes.
Most people are sensitive to the concepts of banking online already, and it doesn’t really bode too well that a notable online banking publication ranks a hacked website among its top 25 Web 2.0 financial website.

I’m not sure how my site even got ranked on Netbanker. I had the domain parked on a hosting service who’s servers got compromised. It’s still a concept site.
